On Minimising Automata with Errors

چکیده
The problem of k-minimisation for a DFA M is the computation of a smallest DFAN (where the size |M | of a DFAM is the size of the domain of the transition function) such that L(M)4L(N) ⊆ Σ, which means that their recognized languages differ only on words of length less than k. The previously best algorithm, which runs in time O(|M | log n) where n is the number of states, is extended to DFAs with partial transition functions. Moreover, a faster O(|M | logn) algorithm for DFAs that recognise finite languages is presented. In comparison to the previous algorithm for total DFAs, the new algorithm is much simpler and allows the calculation of a k-minimal DFA for each k in parallel. Secondly, it is demonstrated that calculating the least number of introduced errors is hard: Given a DFA M and numbers k and m, it is NP-hard to decide whether there exists a k-minimal DFA N with |L(M)4L(N)| ≤ m. A similar result holds for hyper-minimisation of DFAs in general: Given a DFA M and numbers s and m, it is NP-hard to decide whether there exists a DFA N with at most s states such that |L(M)4L(N)| ≤ m.

Beyond Hyper-Minimisation---Minimising DBAs and DPAs is NP-Complete
In this paper we study the problem of minimising deterministic automata over finite and infinite words. Deterministic finite automata are the simplest devices to recognise regular languages, and deterministic Büchi, Co-Büchi, and parity automata play a similar role in the recognition of ω-regular languages. While it is well known that the minimisation of deterministic finite and weak automata i...
متن کاملAn Evolutionary Method for Improving the Reliability of Safetycritical Robots against Soft Errors
Nowadays, Robots account for most part of our lives in such a way that it is impossible for usto do many of affairs without them. Increasingly, the application of robots is developing fastand their functions become more sensitive and complex. One of the important requirements ofRobot use is a reliable software operation. For enhancement of reliability, it is a necessity todesign the fault toler...
متن کاملStability and Complexity of Minimising Probabilistic Automata
We consider the state-minimisation problem for weighted and probabilistic automata. We provide a numerically stable polynomialtime minimisation algorithm for weighted automata, with guaranteed bounds on the numerical error when run with floating-point arithmetic. Our algorithm can also be used for “lossy” minimisation with bounded error. We show an application in image compression. In the secon...

متن کاملMinimisation of Multiplicity Tree Automata
We consider the problem of minimising the number of states in a multiplicity tree automaton over the field of rational numbers. We give a minimisation algorithm that runs in polynomial time assuming unit-cost arithmetic. We also show that a polynomial bound in the standard Turing model would require a breakthrough in the complexity of polynomial identity testing by proving that the latter probl...
